Google GrandCentral - Unlimited Free Cell Phone Calls w/ MyFaves, Pick 3, or My Circle
Google GrandCentral Review
Google has a free service called GrandCentral. You get to choose a phone number for yourself and all calls to that phone number will be forwarded to your cell phone, your home phone, or your work phone, whichever you chose. Free voicemail is included as well.
Here’s an example of how the service works. Let’s say your cell phone number is (510) xxx-xxxx. That’s a Bay Area number but you now live in Southern California. Grand Central allows you to pick your own area code for your new number. In this case, you might choose a (310) area code for Los Angeles, so you get a Grand Central number (310) xxx-xxxx. When somebody calls (310) xxx-xxxx, their call will get forwarded to your (510) xxx-xxxx cell phone.
As far as Caller ID is concerned, you can set up your GrandCentral account so that either sends the Caller ID of the person who calls you or the Caller ID of your GrandCentral phone number. (You can change these settings online anytime.)
How to Get Unlimited Free Cellphone Calls Using Google GrandCentral
Here’s the deal. If you have a cell phone plan that allows you to receive unlimited phone calls from certain numbers you choose (e.g. T-Mobile MyFaves, Sprint Pick 3, Alltel My Circle), you can select your GrandCentral number as one of those special numbers. So when people call your GrandCentral number, you won’t lose any minutes. For the deal to work, you will want GrandCentral to send the CallerID of your GrandCentral phone number.
There’s also a way to make free outbound calls with GrandCentral but it’s not as straightforward. Whoever you want to call will need to call your GrandCentral number first and leave a voicemail message. When you call your GrandCentral number to check your voicemail, GrandCentral gives you the option of returning the call without hanging up. Again, the call will be free to you if your GrandCentral number is registered with your MyFaves, Pick 3, or MyCircle plan. For people you talk to on a regular basis, be sure to save their voicemail so you can use it later again.

I wonder how long it’ll take the cell phone companies to catch on to this. My gf has T-Mobile. I’ll let her know. Great deal while it lasts.

I just created an account and added the Grand Central # to my Pick 3 favorites. It works like a charm.
